Black Speaks to Georgia DUI Seminar
On December 7, 2001, Sean A. Black spoke to the annual Defending Drinking
Drivers Seminar held in Atlanta, Georgia at the Alpharetta
Marriott. His address was on "The Five Essential Components of an
Effective Opening Statement." His presentation was accompanied by a
multimedia Power Point presentation detailing the points of his speech.
Black spoke on the importance of determining the goal of the opening, meshing it
with the other parts of the trial presentation. He advocated avoiding
crutches that limit the advocate's ability to connect with the jury. Black
counseled his fellow attorneys to examine their own motivations as well as the
motivations of the jurors in presenting their clients' stories.

Point presentation.
